“Goyang Destination Week (GDW)”, the first MICE destination marketing international conference within the Asia-Pacific region visits you with the 7th agenda. GDW 2023 will be held at Sono Calm Goyang (Grand Ballroom·Diamond Hall, a five-star hotel) for 5 days from August 22nd (Tue) ~ to 26th (Sat). It will unfold with the topic “Return of Mice” to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic that led to worldwide recession in the MICE industry and to prepare for a new era.
In GDW this year, we have prepared various presentations and seminars on various MICE industry topics and brought in international and domestic MICE specialists, and created a keynote speaker and panel lineup that can't be seen easily. Also, we have upgraded the networking programs for the participants, so don't miss out on this. This a unique opportunity that you can find only at GDW! Let’s take a look step by step.
The event will start off with the Goyang Citizen MICE Day (22nd) on the first day and will be followed by, various programs that will be ongoing continuously such as △the Asia-Pacific Business Event Youth Challenge (23rd) △International Destination Competitiveness Forum (24th) △ICCA Asia-Pacific Business Development Forum (25th) △the Post Tour (26th). Wait a sec! Unfortunately, there are qualification requirements to participate in each program, so before you participate, please check the requirements thoroughly in advance.
22nd The “Goyang Citizen MICE Day” is a MICE training program for Goyang Citizens. You can learn about the MICE industry and the Global Convention Complex of Goyang (GCC GOYANG) by visiting Goyang’s major conference facilities and accumulation centers including KINTEX.
23rd The “Asia-Pacific Business Event Youth Challenge” is a contest where youth under 30 years old from the Asia-Pacific region compete with their ideas for development in the MICE industry that is led by ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) and the Korea MICE Association. The teams who have gone through a primary document review (online) followed by a secondary video test (online) will be conducting a PT test on the day of the event. This event is only open to the applicant of the youth challenge, teams on the shortlist, and invited people. However, we plan to stream the evaluation of the PT presentation and awards ceremony via YouTube Live, so please keep your eye on the result until the end.
Oh, wait! When the awards ceremony is over, the “Internal and External Youth MICE exchanges” will be held at the fascinating KINTEX Camping Site. You don’t want to miss out on this. Participating teams, judges, and university students will share their experiences in getting a job in the MICE industry and their portfolios.
24th The “International Destination Competitiveness Forum (IDCF2023)”, the main conference of GDW will be held at the Grand Ballroom of Sono Calm Goyang. The event will start with △the keynote speech and talk, ”Reviving Brilliance - Unleashing the Power of Global Business Events” by Senthil Gopinath, ICCA CEO, and then sessions and panel discussions by △Avinash Chandarana, Global Learning and Development Director of MCI Group (Retention and Acquisition of Talents), △Amelia Roziman, CEO of Business Events Sarawak (Passion Drives Legacy), △Gary Grimmer, Executive Chairman of GainingEdge (Sustainable DMO Model), △Jean Claude Larreche, Emeritus Professor of INSEAD (City’s Future Growth Strategy - Valve oriented Marketing), △Clara Lopez Fernandez, External Relations Manager of UIA (International Association Meeting Trends), △Martha Sheridan, CEO of Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau (Meetings mean business!) will be continued. I'm too excited to see clear solutions and passionate debate sites conducted by domestic and international MICE experts, it's going to keep me awake! This is open not only to MICE authorities but also open for the public such as general citizens, university students, and more. Don't miss out on this opportunity! :)
25th The “ICCA Asia-Pacific Business Development Forum” will be held on this day. GDW will introduce this event for the first time in the 7th conference. This event is co-sponsored by ICCA and will be held at the Diamond Hall of Sono Calm Goyang. This is a training session for about 100 employees from the ICCA Asia-Pacific region ICCA member companies. You can get useful tips on utilizing DB of the ICCA event efficiently, so if you are already a member of ICCA or if you want to join to become a member of ICCA, we strongly recommend you to come visit this session.
26th We will wrap up GDW2023 with the “Post Tour.” This is a tour program connecting Goyang-si and Gyeonggi-do regions. You will not only visit tourist attractions, but it is more of an experience tour where you can learn about everything about Goyang. This event will be held for the ICCA member companies and the MICE industry authorities! Are you excited?
GDW is... a festival venue and a MICE platform that encompasses MICE industry trends as well as knowledge and information on destination marketing. Even when COVID-19 was on the rise and the traffic between countries have been cut off, it continued its event by providing real-time online and hybrid events. As this event defined the MICE industry as a huge wave of business events instead of limiting it to a specific field, it continues to put its effort to be more friendly and to come closer to the people, specialists, and related companies in the MICE industry as well as people around the world.
It has been credited for contributing to the imprint and spread of the concept of “MICE Destination Marketing” which was very unfamiliar in Korea when the first event was hosted in 2017. It achieved an unprecedented performance of having a total of 4,000 participants from 50 countries until last year during proceeding 6 events. Especially, most of the participants were authorities from the MICE industry and the marketing field, which proved that GDW could be the largest MICE destination event in the Asia-Pacific region.
Above all, it could be possible because there was content with good quality, and high-level presentations and discussions from the international and domestic speakers leading the contemporary trends. Furthermore, GDW’s operation method is a strong point as well as a huge asset because our method focuses on providing business networking opportunities between participants and superior international and domestic authorities of the MICE associations and academy societies such as ICCA, UIA, DI, Korea MICE Association, Korea Exhibition Organizers’ Association, etc.
This year’s GDW2023 will help the Goyang Special City realize its vision to become the “Global MICE City leading a convergence of knowledge, culture, and industry” as well. Of course, these goals and achievements will be made with international and domestic participants and the global MICE industry. If you didn’t apply for participation, please hurry, as we will be waiting for you with better content on the site.
Give it up for GDW 2023. “Return of MICE!”
