In order to achieve the goal of “Goyang Special City, the sustainable MICE capital of Korea,” the Goyang Convention Bureau held the “2025 Goyang MICE Sustainability Expert Committee Appointment Ceremony and 1st Regular Meeting” at the Goyang MICE Promotion Center on April 30.
The Goyang MICE Sustainability Expert Committee was established to continuously generate and manage sustainability outcomes in Goyang’s MICE industry. It consists of nine experts from the four key sectors of the MICE industry: industry, academia, government, and civil society.
The appointed expert members are:
· Kim Min-jeong, Team Leader of the MICE Industry Team at Goyang Special City
· Lee Sang-yeol, Secretary General of Goyang Convention Bureau
· Seo Bo-gyun, Convention Marketing Team Leader at KINTEX
· Yang Bong-cheol, General Manager of Sono Calm Goyang Hotel
· Son Bong-hee, Deputy Director of ICLEI Korea Office
· Joo Yeon-woo, Associate Research Fellow at Goyang Research Institute
· Kim Yong-cheol, CEO of DMC Korea
· Kim Hong-goo, Director at MK1025 Co., Ltd.
· Yoon Young-hye, Professor at Dongduk Women’s University.
Over the next two years, the Expert Committee will participate in Goyang City’s MICE sustainability strategy and take on roles in establishing and advising on implementation plans.
Immediately following the appointment ceremony, the first regular meeting was held, where efforts and outcomes related to sustainability since the founding of the Bureau were shared. The meeting included discussions on improving Goyang City’s performance in the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDSI) this year and on strategies to enhance the city's MICE sustainability overall.
Goyang Special City has been participating in the GDSI (Global Destination Sustainability Index) since 2017, becoming the first city in Korea to do so. Since 2022, Goyang has ranked within the global top 20 for three consecutive years, and in 2023, it achieved 1st place in the Asia-Pacific region and 14th globally—the highest ranking among non-European cities.
This year is especially important as Goyang enters the second phase of its 5-year MICE sustainability plan and works to maintain ISO 20121 certification. Now more than ever, the sharing of expertise and action by the newly appointed expert members is crucial.
We kindly ask for your continued interest in Goyang City, a city seriously committed to the true meaning of sustainability.
